The Build
A sauna is a sealed, high-heat, high-moisture box — what's behind the cedar matters more than the cedar. Here's every stage of how we put one together.
Level pad or footing, pressure-treated sill on a capillary break, and drainage sorted before a single stud goes up.
Studs, plates, headers and blocking — including solid backing everywhere a bench, heater bracket, or door hinge will land.
Dedicated circuit sized to the heater, high-temp cable inside the room, controls and lighting roughed in for inspection.
Mineral wool packed full depth, then foil vapor barrier lapped and taped. This is the step that decides whether the room holds heat for ten years or two.
Furring strips for an air gap, then clear tongue-and-groove cedar or hemlock — blind-nailed so no fastener is ever hot to the touch.
Bench frames set at the right heights for the ceiling, backrests eased, and intake/exhaust vents placed so the room actually circulates.
Heater set to spec clearances, guard rail built, and stones hand-stacked loose enough to let steam move.
Glass door hung, trim fit, then we run it hot, cure the heater, check the draw, and hand it over clean.
